Our Mission
Our mission is to offer the people in our neighborhood the practical and spiritual tools to have a fulfilling life and cultivate a relationship with God.

Our Vision
Our vision, at its most basic form, is to see people and the neighborhood they live in transformed by the power of love. By building trust through relationship, we aim to restore life and hope where there is brokenness and loss of identity. We desire to offer the people in our neighborhood and beyond the practical and spiritual tools necessary to have a fulfilling life and cultivate a relationship with God. Through mentoring programs, outreach, service, and consistent interaction, we hope to encourage people into their destinies and provide hope and identity where it has been lost. We believe in the context of "home," and aim to provide a safe and loving environment to which people always feel welcome to come. We are also equally as motivated to go outside the four walls of the Palm House and into the neighborhood and city of Abilene.
Our Foundation
The Palm House itself was a broken home that was brought back to life because people saw it for what it could be rather than what it was. It now serves as a prototype of what we aim to see take place in lives and homes around us. The Palm House was built over 120 years ago in Abilene, Texas. Over the years, the house became neglected and was in need of major repairs. A group of women saw the house for what it could become. Despite suggestions from numerous people to tear it down, they moved forward with plans to restore it, a process which would ultimately take 3 years to complete. The Palm House was restored entirely with donations from the community, and our programs wouldn't be possible without volunteers. It has been over 10 years since work first began on the house, and the impact it has had on the community has continued to grow.

Our Programs

Kids Program
Twice a week during the school year, we pick up kids from the ages of elementary to high school, from around the city. We partner with college students from all three local universities to become mentors for the kids. The college students are real-life examples of what it looks like to graduate and begin pursuing dreams. Our volunteers come back semester after semester which creates meaningful connections with the kids. They eat together, play games, learn about Jesus, and simply develop friendship through deep connection!

Women's Empowerment Group
What first began as a program birthed under the Violence Against Women's Act (VAWA) has now evolved into a powerful group of women who have become more than survivors. We meet over lunch once a week and discuss topics that allow them to conquer the effects of trauma, while educating them on how to communicate effectively and how to break away from old patterns.

Outreach
Outreach takes a few different forms at Palm House. Weekly, we host an after-school program at a local apartment complex. We offer homework help and build relationship through games and consistency. This is a great opportunity to get to know our neighbors.

We also reach our neighborhood through our community garden project. This is our newest project, and is a great avenue for conversation, community, and fresh food.
